Desalination<\/h2>\n

In an increasing number of regions, the availability of fresh water is being limited by the salinisation of groundwater and surface water. This issue is also growing in the Netherlands and across Europe, driven by drought, sea\u2011level rise, and intensive land use. Desalination makes it possible to convert brackish or saline water into water suitable for irrigation, drinking water, or industrial applications.<\/p>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Where fresh water used to be readily available, shortages of water of the right quality are now becoming increasingly common. For agriculture, this means reduced yields; for industry, higher operational costs; and for drinking water companies, additional pressure on existing sources.
