The textile industry is one of the world’s largest consumers of water. Traditional production processes generate enormous volumes of wastewater and high operational costs, while reuse is often limited by technical and economic barriers.
EColoRO Concept Demonstration – Horizon 2020
EColoRO
The Challenge
The Approach
Within the European Horizon 2020 programme, a consortium has been formed under the leadership of EColoRO BV and the Institute for Sustainable Process Technology (ISPT). The goal: to demonstrate the EColoRO concept at industrial scale, combining electrocoagulation with membrane filtration to treat and reuse textile wastewater.
We supported the consortium throughout all phases of the project: from engineering and conducting laboratory‑scale tests to pilot testing on site. We were also involved in preparing the reports for the European authorities.
The Result
The technology demonstrated that textile factories can reduce their water consumption by up to 90%. This results in lower operational costs and a significant reduction in environmental impact. The successful demonstrations in Belgium and Italy proved that sustainable water reuse in the textile sector is feasible at an industrial scale.
